Why is the UK government bothering with green taxes now?
With speculation that "green spending" is set to get a £500 million boost from the forthcoming budget, there are serious concerns as to why the UK government is continuing along this path even though the economy is still in a dire state. As we have covered on a number of occasions, the vast majority of "green taxes" introduced by the UK government have raised significant funds but nobody is quite sure where these have been invested.
Environmental health and green issues always equate to increased taxes with many people believing they are just a smokescreen to yet again fleece the UK taxpayer and private companies. Have you seen a real difference in your household bills because of green taxes? Have you benefited directly from recycling your goods?
These are all questions which many people in the UK are demanding answers to at a time when the UK authorities are continuing to plough hundreds of millions of pounds into this particular area. The introduction of a "low carbon economy" is also seen by many people as a non-event because what exactly does this mean and who will it help?
While the vast majority of UK taxpayers are positive on the idea of saving the environment and green issues, surely we pay enough taxes already to fund investment in this area?
