Where Are Your Green Taxes Really Going?

The spotlight today is back on ‘green’ taxes and exactly what they are doing for you, where they are going and why they keep growing and growing. There seem to be a number of issues at the fore which include :-

Green Road Taxes

Where exactly are the increased road tax revenues being spent? These are the taxes which have been added to everyday life to try and reduce harm to the environment. Do you see better roads? Do you see a better standard of public transport?

Flood Defences

The last decade has seen more ‘green’ revenue raised than ever before, but where are the improved flood defences? Have all of the leaky water pipes in the UK been fixed? The answer to this seems to be no, with more UK homes than ever before at risk of flooding. Insurance for such homes is proving very difficult to arrange, but the authorities have just announced a deal between the government and the insurance sector today (see additional post on site).

Air Taxes

The UK government were one of many to push the so called budget airlines to compete with the main players, bring prices lower and attracting more people to the airline sector than ever before. Now that competition is intense and prices are lower, the consumer is being hit with more and more ‘green’ taxes, but again where has all this money gone to?
