CBI accuses politicians of failing UK economy
In a fairly outspoken and controversial statement, Richard Lambert, the director-general of the CBI, has spoken out against politicians whom he believes are more interested in themselves than the UK economy. Urging politicians to "get a grip" the CBI has gone on the attack in a bid to rejuvenate and reinvigorate political efforts to refloat the UK economy. Despite the fact that a report yesterday suggested the economy was starting to pick up and the recession is over, there is still a long way to go for many UK businesses.
This is the first time the CBI, a renowned figure in the business world, has openly accused politicians of ignoring the wider picture in favour of their own situation. While the statement was targeted at all political parties, there is no doubt the Labour government is the main target of the attack. Gordon Brown himself has been under severe pressure over the last two weeks as backbenchers attempted to install a new leader only to be headed off at the last minute.
It will be interesting to see how the UK government now reacts to the UK economy and the UK population whom despite the good news of yesterday are still feeling the heat.
