When Charity Begins At Home

Saturday 7th June 2008

When organisers of the Absolute Return for Kids (Ark) charity dinner sat down to discuss their hopes for the event, they were forced to scale down their target from the £28 million raised last year to a ‘mere’ £15 million. However, on the night the dinner managed to raise a mighty impressive £25 million, at an event where tickets cost a staggering £10,000 each.

This annual gathering of the rich and famous from all areas of the business world has raised a massive amount of money over the last few years with £28 million raised at the 2007 event alone. As well as the £10,000 entrance fee there were a number of prizes up for auction with all proceeds going to the Ark charity for children. It was interesting to see that the guest speaker was none other than Tony Blair, a man who has also done very well for himself since giving up the office of PM!

In the doom and gloom of the current economic environment it makes a change to be able to report how even in these tough times many people are still able to dig deep for the charities of their choice. Those who follow the charity sector of the UK will be well aware that times have been extremely hard of late.
