As the cost of living in the UK moves yet higher again there are more and more people seriously looking at emigrating. The number of UK citizens looking to pack up move out has never been great, but is life in foreign lands as rosy as some may have you believe?
If it is purely a cost of living aspect which might push you to look overseas there is every chance that you will find life cheaper in a foreign country. However, if you are looking to Europe the benefits may not actually be as great as you would expect. Life in the UK is more expensive than it has ever been before and is set to rise in the second half of 2008, but many European partners are also suffering.
It seems to be some of the more obscure countries which are attracting UK residents as well as some of the developing countries in the Far East. Many of these developing nations are very hospitable to foreign currency and investment and very often tax rates are only a fraction of those in the UK.
There are opportunities to make a good life overseas but it is not as easy as you might expect. You really do need to do your homework before you should even consider it! |
