Gordon Brown claims victory in Gulf talks
Gordon Brown has claimed victory in his recent talks with Gulf states where he asked them to contribute part of the trillion dollar windfall they have received from the recent spike in the oil price to the IMF. While there has been no official comment from the Gulf states there is immense pressure on them to increase their contribution to the IMF at a time of great hardship.
As economies around the world continue to struggle, with more and more collapsing, there is a need for massive investment to ensure the world does not fall into a depression. It will be interesting to see exactly what funds are released after the meeting as we have heard this all before with no end result. The fact is, as we mentioned recently, the oil states literally have the western world over a barrel due to the high dependence upon oil. Quite why they would look to invest serious amounts of money in the IMF is a little puzzling but if this does happen it will be greatly received.
The next few months are vital for the recovery in the worldwide economy because if more economies collapse there is literally very little money left to help them.
