If Alistair Darling was unable to forecast the recession what chance have we got?

The future of Alistair Darling in his position as Chancellor of the Exchequer is under serious pressure this evening amid accusations that if Alistair Darling was unable to forecast the recession what chance does the rest of the UK government have?

The position of Chancellor of the Exchequer is a vital cog in the everyday life of the UK economy and UK business arena. The suggestion that the man at the top of the Treasury was unable to see the recession homing in on the UK and the potential ramifications for the financial system has effectively blown apart any credibility Alistair Darling had with the City. Gordon Brown also suggest that he had missed the vital signs that the UK was heading for a sharp economic downturn and again his credentials as the protector of the UK economy have been severely damaged.

More worrying for UK taxpayers is the fact that both Alistair Darling and Gordon Brown have been ploughing literally hundreds of billions of pounds into the UK economy, an economy which by their own admission they do not currently understand. Has the government wasted hundreds of billions of pounds of taxpayers money or will eventually see a return?
