Has Lord Mandelson isolated the UK government?

There is yet more comment in the weekend press regarding Lord Mandelson and his recent attack on the Bank of England, whom he blames for the snail-like pace at which additional finance is being made available to the car industry. However, while Lord Mandelson provoked a furious response from the Bank of England he was later made to amend his earlier statement and withdraw his criticism of "his colleagues" at the Bank of England. Has Lord Mandelson isolated the UK government?

Peter Mandelson has a track record which is littered with attempts to pass the blame to third parties often found to be blameless. He is a master of spin, complex comments and effectively passing the buck in order to save his own skin. Gordon Brown was warned about the potential problems which would accompany Lord Mandelson's inclusion in the government although he appeared more intent on saving his own skin than strengthening the UK authorities.

Many people do not realise that Peter Mandelson is not an elected member of Parliament and has gained his ministerial role through his appointment as a Lord in the House of Lords. A number of people believe he has too much say in the government for someone who is unelected, although Gordon Brown appears happy to see other members of the government "take the flak".
