Consumers urged to shop for credit cards

Friday 30th November 2007

Consumer watchdog Which? has called on people to spend time shopping for their credit cards, rather than merely spending money on them.

The organisation believes that consumers can benefit from shopping around for the best credit card deal to suit their personal circumstances and should not therefore simply take the first option that is available to them.

Senior researcher at Which?, Cathy Neal, said that, following the impact of the global credit crunch in the UK, it is now "more important than ever that people shop around" to ensure that their credit card is offering them the best deal.

She added that extra credit card costs are "adding to the confusion" that surrounds credit cards and advised people to review their own credit cards on a regular basis, so as to "make sure that new fees haven't crept in".

Commenting on the high Christmas spending expected this year, she added: "It's always a good idea to use your credit card to pay for anything over £100, whether it's online or on the high street. You don't get that protection if you use a debit card."
