Is the UK facing a blackout as strike action intensifies?
It has been revealed that a number of wildcat strikes will come into effect over the next few days across Britain's oil and power plants. These illegal actions are in support of workers at the Lindsey oil refinery where hundreds have been sacked after taking action to support their colleagues. The unions have been very vocal in their attempts to rectify the situation but so far they have been unable to find any middle ground between employees and employers. So what next?
As the situation intensifies across the UK with more and more strikes expected next week we face the prospect of blackouts in some areas of the country. A shortage of power will impact upon the economy as a whole and in particular businesses, many of which are already on the verge of collapse. The UK government has been very quiet up until this point but with strike action set to multiply across the country it seems only a matter of time before the UK authorities intervene.
It will be interesting to see how this situation is managed because it does have the potential to take the Labour Party back to the old days of strike action and union power at a time when the UK electorate is very confused as to which way to turn.
