You may find it difficult to collect that National Lottery win abroad
A very unfortunate and potentially expensive loophole has arisen with regards to the UK National Lottery and those who play the game online overseas. While we all know of the infamous Camelot National Lottery terminals around the UK it is also possible to buy your tickets online using any computer in any part of the world. However, for those looking to play in some areas overseas you may need to check out the local regulations and Camelot small print!
Even though the Camelot small print runs into tens of thousands of words the bottom line is that tickets bought in United States or "any other jurisdiction in which it is unlawful to play the games" will effectively invalidate the ticket and any win. This is not a situation which has been highlighted by the National Lottery and indeed many UK lottery players may not be aware that their holiday tickets could in fact prevent them from collecting a potential multi-million pound win.
While the US is specifically mentioned in the small print, many expats will be shocked to learn that Spain also falls into this particular bracket and National Lottery tickets acquired online from a computer in Spain may be effectively worthless, even though Camelot will still take your money. More and more people are playing the lottery as the recession continues to bite although today's revelation may well stop those acquiring tickets while on holiday!
