TalkTalk and the bizarre marketing ploy
Commuters in London may well have woken up over the last few weeks with an extra five pounds in their pocket and a branded TalkTalk broadband card and wondered exactly where this came from. In a rather bizarre marketing ploy, TalkTalk has taken on a number of ex-criminals who have expertise in pick-pocketing and similar activities.
In what is being called "put pocketing" various gangs in London have been given the task of leaving money and a branded TalkTalk card in the pockets of passing commuters without them knowing. While the scheme has apparently been cleared by the police and the names of the various parties involved passed to the authorities, there is some concern about the exact nature of the marketing ploy.
Surprisingly, despite hundreds of people waking up with an extra five pound in their pocket and a TalkTalk branded card, none of the "put pocket" gangs involved have been rumbled. The £100,000 marketing fund may well be expanded to other areas of the UK as it is certainly something different and something which has now caught the attention of UK consumers, with the cat well and truly out of the bag. While the scheme may be controversial it is highly effective at promoting the brand!
