Christmas is a time of giving
As the festive period comes to a close and we look forward to the New Year, many people will be spending winter on the streets, homeless and in many cases struggling to find food. Perhaps this is a time when we should be looking towards the charitable sector, a sector which has been devastated by the recession and the economic turmoil in the UK, and consider how lucky many of us are to have a roof over our heads and food on the table.
Donations to the charity industry in the UK have dried up over the last two years with fewer and fewer people having spare money to put aside for good causes and indeed more and more people needing the help of charities in the UK. While the government has stepped forward with a number of investment programmes and rescue packages the truth is that charities are suffering and are likely to remain under pressure for the foreseeable future.
Perhaps now is the time for the UK government to turn off the tap for the UK financial sector and look towards the charity sector, with experts predicting a number of charities will fall by the wayside unless financial assistance emerges in the short-term.
