Broadband switchers have 'so much to gain'
Consumers encountering difficulties in switching broadband provider have been urged to persist with the process despite widely reported delays. The trials experienced by switchers were highlighted in a study from price comparison site uSwitch, which examined how speedily providers supplied the special code required by consumers who wish to leave their existing broadband company. Regulations currently stipulate that this code - known as a MAC - must be sent to the customer within five days of their submitting a request to change. But in four out ten cases consumers were found to still be waiting for their MAC after the mandatory five-day target. Meanwhile, one in seven requests had not received a code at all. Despite these problems, customers should still look to change provider, since this can often result in significant savings, according to Steve Weller, communications expert at uSwitch. He said: "Prices have fallen 36 per cent over the last four years and the average household can now save over £100 a year by switching. "Whats more, speeds are now faster than ever. With so much to gain, it would be a scandal to see an inadequate MAC code process putting consumers off from moving to a better deal."
