Which? advises on energy bills

Which? magazine has issued tips on how consumers can arm themselves with sufficient information to beat the recent spate of increases to energy bills. According to a recent study from the Energy Saving Trust, 82 per cent of consumers are unaware of which tariff they are on and admit to being confused over their energy bill. This lack of awareness is preventing them from comparing deals and potentially changing provider to secure a better tariff, it is claimed. However, consumers can access the basic information they need to begin comparing simply by looking at their bills, Siobhan Parker of Switch with Which? said. Once armed with this information, she continued, they can then use a price comparison site to survey the market and secure the cheapest deal. "Energy suppliers rarely reward loyalty and move customers to a cheaper tariff as a matter of course," she said. "Customers need to be proactive and look for the best deal around - changing supplier could save hundreds of pounds, is completely free and there is no interruption to supply."
