Scambusters Hit The Scottish Streets

Thursday 19th June 2008

As the number of conmen and scams in the UK continues to rise on an almost weekly basis, the Scottish government has put forward £811,000 in funding for a new scambusters hit team which will be based in North Lanarkshire and Dundee. The team will have the mission of exposing and catching the vast number of doorstep sellers, counterfeiters and cowboy tradesmen to name but a few.

The subject of scams and con-artists is not new to this site as we have covered this subject on more than one occasion, but the situation seems to be getting worse. As money becomes tighter for the UK population there is a greater urgency to try and save as much money as possible opening the door to many scams and illegal rackets. While the police forces and trading standards associations throughout the UK are there to catch and close down these schemes as quickly as possible, in many areas they are being overrun.

Even though the authorities will often catch up with these groups in the end, it is vital that the UK population ensure they do not get taken in by these tricksters. Simply by checking credentials, calling employers and ignoring deals which seem too good to be true it is possible to minimise the risks.
