When a Labour MP by the name of Tom Harris was asked about the rising cost of living and transport expenses, many observers had expected the traditional Party line – we are doing our best, we feel your pain, etc. However, what happened next seems to have caught many journalists and observers on the hop!
Transport Minister Tom Harris is reported to have requested that the UK population should stop being so ‘bloody miserable’. He went on to suggest that the UK population has never been better off financially, carefully ignoring the ongoing credit crunch, rising financial debt, the increased cost of living and spiralling tax demands. He also went onto claim that what we each spend on food and clothing today would have ‘made our parents gasp’, ignoring that fact that it is inflation which has seen many retail prices pushed higher and higher over the last twenty or thirty years.
While sometimes it is best to say nothing, it seems that the Labour Party has yet again shot itself in the foot, proving itself to be totally out of touch with Party supporters and the UK public in general. Do the Labour Party really need David Cameron to finish them off? |
