ASDA And Tesco Go Head To Head

Friday 27th June 2008

As money becomes even tighter for the UK population news that ASDA and Tesco are going head to head on price will be welcomed by shoppers all over the country. The two companies have confirmed that they will be introducing a new range of staple goods such as bread, milk, eggs, etc which will be selling for around 50p. However, there is some cynicism in the market place as we seem to have seen these short sharp shock promotions before.

In troubled times there always seems to be some kind of ongoing promotion from the big retailers to catch the eye, but many consumers have complained that once they get to the store these bargain items are often out of stock. A cheap marketing ploy or a determined effort to win your business?

It has long been common knowledge that the supermarkets are experts at bringing in new customers with tempting rock bottom prices, customers who will often end up buying high value items as well. There are few business sectors in the UK with the skill to match the supermarkets on the marketing front, whether it is the 99p chicken, the 50p carton of milk or some other ‘value for money’ everyday item.
