Severn Trent Is In Touch With Its Customers

Water company Severn Trent has finally shown that there is at least one company in touch with its customers after suggesting that more and more customers will struggle to pay their bills as the price of water rises and the economy slows down. In a trading update the group commented upon the fact that bad debts look ready to rise over the next 12 months as more of the UK population are pushed onto the energy breadline.

While there have not released details of how they expect to help customers who are struggling, the fact that it has been noted is a starting point. Rather than take customers to court over unpaid bills it seems as though a more sensible long term approach will be introduced, to the benefit of all parties involved. As it happens, water is one of the core services which cannot be cut off without extremely good reason - something which was installed in law when the groups were floated on the stock market.

Severn Trent also suggested that the company is set to beat operating targets set by OFWAT (the sector regulator) and pass on part of these savings to customers.
