Why Are Road Users Such Easy Targets For The Government?

Those who drive a motor vehicle will have seen the cost of driving spiral over the last few years and while it would be nice to say we are at the top of the market, this does not seem to be the case. The government may have postponed the latest fuel tax rise but they are pushing ahead full steam with a massive increase in vehicle road tax, something which could see some drivers paying double or treble the figure they are paying now.

This has prompted many to ask why drivers are seemingly such an easy target for the authorities and when it will all stop. The truth is that with many people having no option but to drive to and from work etc, they have no choice and have to pay the increased tax. We also have the more wealthy areas of society who are not exactly happy with the moves, but to many it will not make a major dent in their wealth.

It is this mix of lack of choice and the wealthy sector which has ensured that the government is able to get away with such tax increases. Short term fury is often forgotten but this time things seem to be reaching a head with more and more protests and lobbying expected to try and force a rethink on the increased road tax plan.
