Unions fear choice between eating or heating for elderly this winter
The Unions have stepped up their war of words with the government by suggesting that the choice for many older people this winter will be 'eating of heating' in what is being billed as a 'winter of fear'. But are these comments valid?
On the surface these comments may seem a little on the dramatic side but in reality this is the choice which some older people will need to make with energy prices soaring. While Gordon Brown has handed out winter fuel payments in the past, the impact of these is less and less as prices continue to go through the roof.
However, while the Unions are quite at liberty to suggest that winter will be very hard for many in the UK how can they then predict a 'winter of discontent' which will see strike action move up a gear and everyone in UK suffer. We have already seen bins lying on the streets for days because of strike action just 2 weeks ago and with more strikes planned there will be more chaos as Christmas approaches.
The Unions cannot suggest that life will be tough at Christmas because of the energy companies and then take actions which will make the situation worse for everyone!
