Brown to unveil help for energy price victims
While we should give Gordon Brown the benefit of the doubt as his energy assistance package is set to be announced in about 20 minutes time, it is very difficult. All of the talk of multi-billion pound windfall taxes has gone by the way, energy price discounts have been ditched and we are now looking at tasks such as loft insulation - something which 99% of homes built in recent times will already have!
It seems as though the king of the short term gimmick has finally decided to go longer term, or was he forced into this action?
It will be interesting to see Gordon Brown stand up in his press conference and have the nerve to say that he is delivering, that cost savings are coming in and that he has lived up to his promises. But this was not what was promised, this is not the headline grabbing actions which turn voters heads, these are long term 'solutions' which many people will not need and many people cannot even afford to contribute towards.
While we will be reporting on the text of his speech there are already rumours of cut-off points with those earning over £12,000 a year apparently not eligible for assistance.
