Slop buckets for your home - Whatever next?
The UK government has today released plans for the weekly collection of waste food throughout the UK through the use of so called 'slop buckets'. So not only have many local council's taken away weekly rubbish collections but they now expect families to live for one week at a time with a bucket of waste food awaiting collection. Who ever thought up this crazy scheme?
After conducting a trial of the system, which cost £1.6 million, the authorities have declared that the whole of the UK should introduce 'slop buckets' into the kitchen. Not surprisingly the government has been patting itself on the back claiming that people on the trial who have fortnightly rubbish collections were happy to have their food slops picked up weekly - of course they would be!
However, those who still have weekly rubbish collections were not too keen on the new idea - surprise, surprise. It has also to be noted that many homes reported an increase in vermin after introducing the 'slop buckets' although this is not mentioned in the government's review of the trial.
Now to the crunch, the local authorities around the UK have already said that they will need new equipment to pick up these 'slop buckets' which will cost tens if not hundreds of millions of pounds - so expect at least a £10 increase in your council tax bill to pay for this.
This now begs the question, surely it is safer and more cost affective to return to weekly rubbish collections around the whole of the UK?
