Is the alternative energy market dead?

News that Shell has finally pulled out of its last remaining wind farm operation in the UK has concerned many environmentalists who are very concerned at this new direction. While the Shell investment was sold to a third party who will continue the venture we are seeing more and more alternative energy operations fold, sold or being put on hold. So has the momentum been lost?

The likes of wind farms and other similar ventures have always been seen as more of a headline grabber in the UK rather than a real alternative for the future. The authorities have given minimal tax incentives for companies to get involved and there have even been complications with getting them connected to the national grid

All in all the alternative energy market has been launched and re-launched on many occasions but it is just not working. Until the authorities increase investment in the sector, or reduce taxes for those involved in the industry, we are unlikely to see any real movement, although what our so called 'green' tax money is being spent on remains to be seen.

There will be headlines, there will be new ventures but whether these are followed through is a very different matter.
