Homeowners have been urged to ensure they have adequate home insurance cover, in the wake of a study indicating that storm-related insurance claims are set to increase by over a third in coming years.
The German study predicted that should Britain continue to suffer from the high winds and heavy downpours seen last summer, storm related losses are set to increase by 37 per cent.
Last year, the total bill for repairing damage to roofs alone hit £45 billion for the 1.5 million homeowner submitting claims, according to research from Halifax Home Insurance.
The figures underline the crucial importance of having comprehensive home insurance cover, Martyn Foulds, senior claims manager at Halifax, said.
He commented: "Homeowners without adequate buildings insurance cover risk finding a huge hole blown in their finances by the cost of repairs.
"Increasing incidents of extreme weather conditions, such as wind and flood, make it more vital than ever for homeowners to take proactive steps to protect their financial and physical security before disaster strikes."
