Is Fully Comp Cover Being Taken Away?

Saturday 12th July 2008

A quick look around the internet or a phone call to your local car insurance agent will give you the impression that Fully Comprehensive car insurance is still very much alive and kicking, but is it?

A survey by the Financial Mail has shown that slowly but surely insurance companies have been stripping away many elements of Fully Comprehensive cover that we all took for granted (and many of us still do). Never has it been more vital for a motorist to read the small print and see exactly what they are covered for – driving a third party vehicle is not standard anymore, neither is cover for uninsured losses if you have a crash, and overseas travel cover may not be there.

Prices have been going up for many years but the actual levels of cover afforded to the drivers of today seem to be very much lower. Many insurance companies will argue that these options are still available, but that is what they are, added options for which you will be charged an extra fee. The price of fuel has gone through the roof, car tax will near quadruple for some and now we are seeing the level of car insurance cover we pay for being reduced.

Is it still worth driving a car in the UK?
