The last few weeks have seen a substantial rise in the number of the UK population looking towards some form of personal cover for accidents, sickness and redundancy with many fearing the worst in the weeks and months ahead. But do these policies really pay and are there any catches?
On the surface it seems very sensible for someone to put themselves and their family’s financial security first, but many customer do not seem to fully understand what they are buying and the possible benefits to them. True, all of these policies will pay out on the loss of employment, sickness and accidents where financial assistance is required, but are new customers reading the small print?
Many of these policies have traditional exemption periods of between 60 days and 90 days when all claims will be void, but more and more are extending this period to 6 months. In the good times it seems that nobody was interested in such policies, but now that job security is lower there has been something of a clamour for cover.
It is vital that people understand what they are buying, what the conditions are and what financial assistance they can expect, but perhaps more importantly, how long any financial support will last. |
