Insurance warning from esure
In-store insurance policies should be avoided if consumers want to save money, esure has warned.The insurance company has conduced research which found that nearly a quarter (23 per cent) of Britons buy extra insurance for products bought from a retailer.However, of this group, 3.3 million already have home contents insurance, meaning the extra cover is useless.The company warned that buying unneeded insurance could add a "significant" amount to the total shopping bill."It's crucial to know what your home insurance covers before you hit the shops to avoid wasting money on unnecessary policies," said Mike Pickard, head of risk and underwriting at esure."Doubling up on insurance is the same as throwing your money away."The company offers some tips to avoid falling into the doubled-up insurance trap, including remembering that most shop assistants will get a commission if they sell a policy, so consumers should be wary of the "hard-sell".
