Building 'not solution' to affordable housing issue

It has been claimed that the government's efforts to build more new homes in an effort to boost the number of first time buyers in the market will not succeed.A spokesperson for Firstrung has argued that the current building plans will not boost the number of first time buyers getting onto the property ladder because not enough low-cost, keyworker homes are going to be built."I don't think the political will is genuinely there for the keyworker home," explained Paul Holmes of Firstrung. He added: "Governments do not build homes, builders build homes and in the current marketplace builders are not going to build homes unless they can do it profitably."However, the National Affordable Homes Agency claims that the Key Worker Living scheme that has been established in London, the south-east and east of England is helping more keyworkers in these areas to get a foothold on the property ladder.
