Stamp Duty Rumours Simply Untrue Says Treasury Spokesperson
A Treasury spokesperson has today come forward to blast suggestions that the government has come forward with a plan to suspend or delay the payment of stamp duty on house purchases. This seems to fly in the face of recent comments from the Chancellor Alistair Darling who seemed to indicate that a suspension of stamp duty was under serious consideration by the authorities. So what really is going on?
This latest revelation by the Treasury has underlined exactly what is one of the main traits of this current government, a seeming inability to communicate to the outside world and 'sing from the same hymn sheet'. At this moment in time the Labour Party seems more interested in back biting and in fighting as the battle to be next leader of the Party takes a turn for the worse.
More experienced Party members are suggesting that any talk of a leadership challenge is put on the back burner for the time being and the UK economy takes centre stage. The last thing we can afford at this moment in time is a government which has taken its eye off the ball and failing to act quickly enough and decisively enough to tackle the many problems in the country.
