Computer systems fail at Nationwide
Nationwide has become the latest financial organisation to suffer a system failure, which has meant customers are unable to access online banking as well as account details in branches.
The building society has apologised to customers who have been affected and said it will look to sort the problem out as quickly as possible.
This is not the first time that customers of Nationwide have had to endure a failure in the electronic systems, and last July an error led to double payments being taken from hundreds of thousands of account holders making electronic payments. Although Nationwide said that particular situation was caused by ‘one-off’ human error, customers will be disappointed with the latest breakdown.
Some customers have issued complaints indicating that the service has been down for the majority of the day to Nationwide, who are the biggest building society in the UK with an estimated four million customers.
Information posted on the website has informed customers that online banking is unavailable.
“Customers can still use ATM’s to withdraw cash and to check their balance and our branches are open to deal with our customers’ needs. Customers debit and credit cards are not affected. We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused and we are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible”, a Nationwide spokesman said.
