Barclays Bank customers hit by computer problem
A number of Barclays Bank customers were unable to withdraw money yesterday after a power outage caused the company's LINK ATM service to go down for a 20 minute period. This comes only days after the company announced a deal to outsource handling of its ATMs to NRC Corporation although the company furiously denies claims that the "outage" is in any way connected to the outsourcing deal.
A number of Barclays Bank customers have logged onto various forms on the Internet complaining about the problem with many suggesting the outage was longer than 20 minutes even though Barclays Bank is adamant that the problem was "swiftly resolved". The company is currently investigating exactly what happened and what caused the outage to ensure this does not happen again.
In a separate incident, a number of Barclays Bank customers appeared to be having difficulty accessing their online services although there is no reason to believe this issue is connected to the ATM problem. At this moment in time Barclays Bank is under deluge from furious customers although it does further highlight the massive dependence which the UK public have upon online banking services and ATM machines. Barclays Bank is not the first company to experience a serious outage and it certainly will not be the last!
