Are you missing out on a £140 winter fuel bill discount?
10/09/2014
Thousands of pensioners and people on low incomes are missing out on a £140 winter fuel bill discount to help with their bills.
Home heat helpline, a helpline for people who are worried about their energy bills and keeping warm during the winter, have advised that eligible customers are not coming forward to claim their one off payment of £140 to help with their winter gas bills.
The payment is made available each year between the months of October and March, but many households are not claiming the money. The scheme, called the Warm Home Discount Scheme (WHDS), is available to people on pension credit, Income Support, Job Seekers Allowance, have a child under 5 or look after someone with disabilities.
The “big six” energy suppliers, British Gas, E.on, EDF Energy, Npower, Scottish Power and Scottish and Southern Energy are all now accepting WHDS. Each energy company has its own rules on who it will provide with financial help, so to find out if you qualify, customers are being advised to contact their supplier.
Energy UK’s Barbara Vest said:
“Now is the right time to make energy efficiency changes to homes; whether it is getting a new boiler, double glazing or changing old light bulbs to energy efficient ones. It is also the best time to apply for the Warm Home Discount.
People shouldn’t wait until temperatures drop to take action”
