General Electric plans £99 million wind turbine plant in UK

The UK government is today a little more relieved with regards to "green issues" in the country with news that General Electric will be opening a new £99 million offshore wind turbine plant in the UK. This comes just hours after Alistair Darling used the budget to highlight the ever-growing importance of "green issues" in the UK and the fact that the UK government needs to attract around £100 billion of investment to meet renewable energy targets by 2020.

Despite a number of tax breaks offered by the authorities, there were initial concerns that much of the equipment required would be supplied by overseas companies thereby robbing the UK economy of significant job opportunities in the short, medium and longer term. However, today's announcement of a £99 million investment in a UK based plant is welcome news for a business arena which many believe will play a prominent role in the UK economy in years to come.

So far we have seen a fairly large investment in the green sector in the UK but many people are yet to feel the benefits of this growing industry. Many believe that the green industry will only be accepted in the UK once the supply from this area of the energy market is more visible and directed at UK consumers and UK businesses. So far we have seen significant investment with very little return as yet - but is this set to change in the short term?
