Centrica reveals new recycled energy plan
In a rather bizarre development 200 households in Oxfordshire recently received biomethane gas from Centrica which has come from a rather than usual source. These are the first households in the UK to receive gas which has been produced from sewage flushed away in the area three weeks earlier. This must be the ultimate recycling system for household energy the world has ever seen!
The very fact that the gas, which was produced using recent sewage from the area, was supplied via the National Grid is a major breakthrough and effectively means that the system can be replicated across the UK. Without going into detail there is no doubt that the ability to recycle and reuse sewage which would ultimately have been filtered from the system before the water is returned to the supply chain could significantly reduce costs in this particular area in the future.
When you also take into account the fact this comes at a time when UK utility bills continue to rise and consumers see more and more of their monthly budgets going towards household bills perhaps the timing is perfect. Even though no costs of the recycled energy have been released we can only hope that similar initiatives in the future will help to cut the cost of utility services across the UK.
