Scotland set to become green energy capital of UK

Alex Salmond yesterday announced a deal between Scottish and Southern Energy and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries which will see 1,000 employment opportunities introduced to Glasgow over the next five years. The two companies are set to work together on green energy and green energy systems with specific focus upon offshore wind farms and electric powered cars.

If there is one area of the UK which has a climate perfect for green energy it has to be Scotland. Estimates suggest that 25% of Scotland's energy supply comes from the green energy sector at this moment in time, something which will increase as the years go by. While there are some concerns regarding environmental issues in relation to wind farms and wave power, there is no doubt that if the Scottish government can create something of a green energy industry in and around Glasgow this has the potential to blossom in the future.

This comes at a time when unemployment in Scotland is still relatively high and indeed many experts believe Scotland will be the last major area of UK to see an economic recovery. It will be interesting to see whether the Scottish government can build upon this very positive move by Scottish and Southern Energy and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.
