Pensioners hit by tax code error
It has been revealed that pensioners in the UK have been dragged into the rogue tax code saga which has seen millions of incorrect tax code forwarded to taxpayers in the UK. While pensioners have been warned to be on the lookout for incorrect tax codes, which could in a worst-case scenario see people paying over £100 extra tax a month, it is not yet clear exactly how deep the problem goes.
This is the latest in a long line of issues with HM Revenue and Customs and the introduction of a new computer system to the government department. One of the main problems is the fact that HM Revenue and Customs is at the moment unable to confirm exactly who has received incorrect tax codes although it still insists the vast majority of information sent to UK taxpayers is correct.
At a time when taxpayers across the UK are struggling to make ends meet on a month by month basis the last thing they need is additional tax demands from the government which may turn out to be incorrect. How long it will take to resolve this issue remains to be seen but anger amongst UK taxpayers and the UK population in general is growing.
