Tesco announce plans to build four mini-villages in UK
Tesco, the UK's largest supermarket group, has today announced plans to build four mini villages across the UK in what many believe is a sign of things to come. The company has been looking to expand into property for some time and today's revelation that new developments will be built at Bromley by Bow, East London, Dartford, Kent, Streatham, South London and Woolwich have received mixed responses.
The developments would involve transport networks, entertainment venues, potentially hundreds of new homes and other everyday services which you would see in any village around the UK. However, while there is no doubt that demand will be high for such housing services in the UK, with Tesco likely to price the developments at the lower-end of the market, there is concern about the power and the information which would be available to the company in due course.
This is not the first time that Tesco has ventured into the property market although it is the first time the company has actually announced plans to build mini villages across the UK. There will be pressure on the UK government to ensure there is no cross selling of services and information from one area of the business empire is not transferred and misused in other areas. Quite how the government would do this remains to be seen!
