US authorities set to investigate foreclosure market
The US authorities have confirmed plans to investigate the foreclosure industry amid concerns about the activity of some underlying participants. There is concern in some quarters that legal procedures which were put in place to protect homeowners may have been compromised in the rush to push through property sales as quickly as possible. A number of foreclosure companies this week confirmed they would review their own procedures but this is not enough for the authorities to cancel a planned investigation.
There has been concern for sometime regarding the US foreclosure market which are seen a number of properties sold off for relatively small amounts of money. Many homeowners are being left saddled with major financial difficulties at a time when the economy is beginning to slow again and the US government is already talking about introducing new fiscal stimulus programs. The housing market in the US brought about the credit crunch and resulting worldwide recession and there are fears that further problems in this area could bring about credit crunch part two and yet more difficulties.
It will be interesting to see what the US authorities find during their investigation of the foreclosures market and indeed whether any lessons can be learned for the future.
