Have you completed your self-assessment tax return?

As we approach the final date for submitting self-assessment tax returns, i.e. 31 January, the next 48 hours will prove vital for many people in the UK. Despite the fact that paper tax returns were being accepted up until late 2009 more and more people are looking towards the Internet to simplify their tax returns. However, it does seem as though more and more people are leaving this until the last minute!

So if you have still not completed your self-assessment tax return then you need to do so immediately because while on the surface everything may look simple, when you get down to actually filing a return there may be some problems which arise. Giving yourself as much time as possible over the next 48 hours is vital because those who submit their returns late stand to be penalised to the tune of £100 upwards.

In many ways the Internet has simplified tax returns and other financial dealings in the UK but more and more it is becoming apparent that people are leaving things until the last minute. What would you do if your Internet connection went down for the next 48 hours? What would you do if you were missing information and had only one hour left to submit your return?
