Is English football on the verge of a meltdown?

Rumours in the football world indicate that Hull City have effectively transfer listed all of their players in the attempt to reduce the company's debt while Portsmouth football club is still in significant turmoil and has again warned staff that January wages could be late for the third time in recent months. So is UK football and English football in particular on the verge of a meltdown?

While there are problems in the English Premier league are also problems in division one, division two, division three and the Scottish leagues. It would now appear that an over dependence upon television money has backfired spectacularly as wages continue to rise yet football related income appears to be falling. Many clubs in the English Premiership are now trading on wages alone which are more 50% of club income which has tipped the balance towards a potential meltdown.

The English Premiership is still by far and away the most respected and the most popular football league in the world but many believe the sector is now over saturated and income could remain flat, at best, until new technology is introduced. While pay-per-view will at some point enter the fray it may well be too late for some English football clubs who have over extend their finances in the short term.
