Is Gordon Brown siding with the Liberal Democrats?
While the press today is dominated by a number of negative articles about Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg, he has received unexpected support from the Labour Party and Lord Mandelson in particular. It is also well-known that Gordon Brown has "sounded out" the Liberal Democrat party regarding a potential deal in the future suggesting there are a number of policies which are very similar.
To many political experts it seems as though the Labour Party has effectively thrown in the towel regarding the potential to win the election outright and become the majority party in parliament. It now seems as though Gordon Brown and Lord Mandelson are looking to bring the Liberal Democratic Party on board and form an unlikely coalition government. Whether this is in fact the truth remains to be seen but the support for Nick Clegg offered by the Labour Party is as strong as it is unexpected.
David Cameron will need to ensure his performance at tonight's live TV debate is out of the top drawer because time is running out and his support amongst the UK electorate is in doubt. It will be interesting to see how the polls change after tonight's performances.
