Have you stuck with your financial New Years resolution?

03/02/2015

Finally, after what feels like a lifetime, January has come to an end. The first, and often toughest, month of the year is over. Did you keep your New Years resolution? A survey, conducted with online shoppers on the website FreeDeliveryLand.co.uk, has shown that the second to last Friday in January, dubbed “Fail Friday”, is the day you are most likely to have broken your New Years resolution. So if you feel you have failed, you are not alone!

Another sobering statistic is that only 3% of us who make New Years resolutions manage to stick to them for the full twelve months. We here at Financialadvice.co.uk feel like that can not possibly be true. Most of the resolutions amongst our staff team revolved around drinking less, losing weight and seeing more of the world. So far, some of us have stuck to them, and some of us…well, let’s just say sadly we won’t be in the 3% who successfully make the full 12 months!

To find out more about how we could help our visitors, we ran a poll on our website from the end of December and throughout the month of January to see what everyone’s financial New Years resolutions were.

Our results showed that to save up for a deposit for a mortgage came out on top, with over 55% of voters hoping to do this. Next was the resolution to eliminate wasteful spending, with 22.2% of people wanting to do this, a further 16.7% wanted to improve their credit score, and 5.6% of people want to find out more about their pension opportunities. We sincerely hope that more than 3% of you are still sticking to these goals!

If you have found yourself floundering from your financial New Years resolutions this month, don’t worry. The good thing is you still have 11 months to really achieve what you have set out to do. One of the best ways to stick to New Years resolutions is to have a helping hand along the way. Here at financialadvice.co.uk, we can help you with the best ways to save for a mortgage, give you guidance on how to improve your credit score, provide hints and tips to help with your spending and keep you updated and aware of your pension options and any changes that may effect you.

New Years resolutions can be a great way to get you started on the path towards financial security, the property ladder, or a brighter financial future. These goals will need to be long term commitments, but will make such a difference to your future wellbeing. It is well worth making the right moves at the beginning of the year, half way through the year, or even at the end of the year, to set you on the right track financially, and we can help.

So, if you have stuck to your resolution till now, well done! You should be very proud of yourself, if you have not, don’t worry. Any time is the right time to start looking after your finances, and a little slip up early on should not stop you from achieving your long term financial goals.
