Christmas savings 'can start the habit'

Christmas saving schemes can help to get people into the habit of regularly putting some money away, it has been claimed. The Consumer Credit Counselling Service has welcomed the availability of Christmas saving schemes as a way "for people to get back into the habit" of saving money.James Ketchell, spokesperson for the charity, explained that easy access to credit had made the saving habit "redundant", but added that Christmas funds could prove beneficial to those on a low income."The important thing is for people to save. It doesn't matter what way they choose to do that, everybody is different," Mr Ketchell concluded.Commenting on the benefit of a Christmas saving scheme, Mr Ketchell said it "allows people to have a nice Christmas without it being expensive for credit card bills in the new year".
