Savings are a priority for 2009
A quarter of British people hope to save more money next year than they did during 2008, research suggests. According to a study conducted by financial institution Alliance & Leicester, saving money has ranked in the top five personal resolutions for 2009. Some 25 per cent of people intend to save more money next year, which placed it just behind taking regular exercise (40 per cent), losing weight (39 per cent) and cutting down on spending (26 per cent). Hetal Parmar, manager for savings at Alliance & Leicester, said: "The tradition of kick-starting a New Year with a 'wish-list' of resolutions clearly lives on." "Our research found the old favourites of exercising more and losing weight snatching the top two spots for 2009," Mr Parmar explained. "However, finances are clearly also a big priority for us all, with Brits wanting to cut down on their spending and to save more of their hard earned cash - over and above wanting to stop smoking or to find love!"The research also suggested that ten per cent of people intend to start saving money for the first time during 2009 and 32 per cent hope to save more than in 2008.
