Is there more bad news on the way regards income tax?
This weekend has seen an outbreak of fierce infighting between Blairite and Gordon Brown supporters amid suggestions that a number of left-wing Cabinet ministers had placed pressure on Gordon Brown to introduce the new 50% tax band for those earning £100,000 and above as opposed to the £150,000 figure announced. In a move which will have the opposition parties rubbing their hands in glee it would appear that old Labour and new Labour supporters are set to battle it out for control of the Labour Party over the next few months.
With suggestions that new Labour could be dead and old Labour making a significant comeback, there are more concerns that the income tax regime in the UK could be expanded. In the world of politics nothing is sacrosanct and in the run up to the next general election many people are expecting increased taxes for the more wealthy in the UK even though a recent survey suggested that many people believe the budget was unfair.
At this moment in time it appears as though the Tory party is winning the battle for Middle England but there still a long way to go before the Conservative party can take the seat of power.
