Why are so many people looking to move overseas?
As the UK taxation system comes under pressure with significant criticism across the board, ahead of a likely increase in tax rates, more and more people are looking to move overseas on a long-term basis. What started as a gentle stream of UK citizens looking to relocate overseas has grown substantially over the last few weeks, and months, as future changes to the UK taxation system become more and more evident.
The last UK budget saw a significant increase in taxation for those at the top end of the income spectrum although there are serious concerns that every taxpayer in UK will be hit in the medium term. Direct taxation and indirect taxation have both increased massively in the UK over the last decade and for many people the ongoing MP's expenses scandal has proved to be "the straw which broke the camel's back".
As we approach the European elections, and a general election next year, the ruling Labour Party has seen a significant drop in support although all parties have been affected by the MPs expenses scandal. However, taxation is an issue which will be central to next year's general election as there is no doubt that difficult decisions need to be made in the short to medium term.
