UK government's green initiative called to account
As the UK government appears to stand on the verge of an enormous investment into the green sector a wind turbine factory on the Isle of Wight is set to go out of business with the loss of more than 500 jobs. While this operation is in no way connected to the UK government or any particular initiative underway at the moment, the Danish owners of the Vestas factory have cited little political assistance as one of the major reasons why this site is to close.
Up to 30 workers have begun a sit down demonstration and police were called today to try and shepherd the workers away from the factory. With Ed Miliband taking the moral high ground with regards to the subject of green energy, yet still allowing this particular factory to close, there is the potential for the UK government to attract cynicism in the way in which it has grabbed the headlines while failing to assist businesses operating in the sector.
This will further muddy the waters for UK consumers who now appear to be shelling out billions of pounds even though part of the infrastructure required to make the green energy sector successful has been starved of business and funding.
