Why do the authorities always attack UK motorists?

With news that a number of UK cities are set to implement an employer parking levy from 2012, which will see employees charged £250 to park in their office car park, it seems that UK motorists are easy prey for the UK authorities. But why do the authorities always attack UK motorists when they require more tax income?

The simple fact is that UK motorists are an easy target and any tax introduced tomorrow would soon be forgotten because many people simply cannot do without their vehicle. We have learned to live with excessive petrol tax, ever increasing car insurance premiums, road tax which has gone through the roof and now we will be charged to park at our places of work.

However, the situation could get very much worse for UK motorists in the future because while the government has recently played down talk of a pay as you drive system across the country, there is no doubt it is on the way. UK motorists have somehow, through no fault of their own, become public enemy number one as far as politicians are concerned. Surely this ongoing victimisation of UK motorists, which is exactly what it is, has to end at some stage?
