What do you actually get for your local and national taxes?
With news that the UK government could be set to install a means test system for free pensioner bus passes, more and more people are asking themselves what do they receive for their local and national taxes?
We have seen litter collection fall from once a week to every two weeks, local government pension schemes take more and more tax income while employment in the public sector continues to blossom even during the recession.
There is no doubt that the UK public sector is heavily weighted as a percentage of the overall UK employment market and has grown substantially under the current Labour government. Whether this will be different under any other party government remains to be seen, but there is no doubt that UK taxpayers now appear to be receiving "less bang for their buck".
The truth is that taxes in the UK, including local, national and indirect taxes have been rising for many years with Gordon Brown said to be the root of many new taxes introduced to the UK. The NHS continues to creak under pressure, taxpayer money is used to bail out the banking system and ultimately it seems as though the MPs are the only ones enjoying the fruits of the expenses system. But what can UK taxpayers do about it?

Political fallout set to hit Scottish economy
Despite attempts today by the SNP to try and defuse the Lockerbie bomber issue it seems as though various US threats to boycott Scottish goods and Scottish services are to go ahead.
